The 4 steps, with a tip for you

  1. Put on pyjamasParent tip: Pyjamas already out?
  2. Brush teethParent tip: 2 minutes - you can use a song or timer.
  3. Wash faceParent tip: Warm water and a quick wash.
  4. Get into bedParent tip: Then you can read a bedtime story.

Make it a quest instead of a reminder

Instead of repeating the instruction, start with a tiny story. In Mess Monsters this routine opens like this: “Bed Lump is still very wiggly before bed. Getting ready for sleep will help it calm down.”

You stay the game master. Your child does the real step, you confirm it on your phone, and Bed Lump gets a little happier with every step. The phone stays with the adult; the routine happens in the real world.
