The 5 steps, with a tip for you

  1. Find dirty clothesParent tip: Start with the floor.
  2. Put them in the basket
  3. Carry a towel or pajamasParent tip: A light item to help with.
  4. Fold clean socksParent tip: Pair them like a game.
  5. Put the basket back in its place

Make it a quest instead of a reminder

Instead of repeating the instruction, start with a tiny story. In Mess Monsters this routine opens like this: “Sock Tangler found a pile of clothes. Shall we help put everything where it belongs?”

You stay the game master. Your child does the real step, you confirm it on your phone, and Sock Tangler gets a little happier with every step. The phone stays with the adult; the routine happens in the real world.
