The 3 steps, with a tip for you

  1. Get out the homeworkParent tip: Sit nearby, without screens.
  2. Finish all assignmentsParent tip: Take breaks if needed: 5 minutes of work, 2 minutes of rest.
  3. Put the assignment back in the backpackParent tip: In the right folder?

Make it a quest instead of a reminder

Instead of repeating the instruction, start with a tiny story. In Mess Monsters this routine opens like this: “Book Tangler got tangled up near the homework. Let's help it calm down and finish the work together.”

You stay the game master. Your child does the real step, you confirm it on your phone, and Book Tangler gets a little happier with every step. The phone stays with the adult; the routine happens in the real world.
