The 5 steps, with a tip for you

  1. Finish the drawing or craftParent tip: Give a warning about the last few minutes.
  2. Close markers or paints
  3. Put materials back in place
  4. Throw away paper scraps
  5. Wipe the table

Make it a quest instead of a reminder

Instead of repeating the instruction, start with a tiny story. In Mess Monsters this routine opens like this: “Toy Titan was drawing and scattered glitter around. Shall we finish the creative time nicely?”

You stay the game master. Your child does the real step, you confirm it on your phone, and Toy Titan gets a little happier with every step. The phone stays with the adult; the routine happens in the real world.
